Autumn/Winter 2013/14 - Boys Trend - Reflective

Today I am introducing another trend for Autumn/Winter 2013 called Reflective. This board focuses on younger boys, tomorrow I will be posting another Reflective trend board focusing on younger girls.
Photobucket

My Reflective trend looks at all things that influence our culture today.  It is heavily influenced by Eastern European cultures and traditions which are mixed with our own values and traditions to show a reflection of todays youth culture.

Traditional Romanian and Russian prints are mixed with typography and used as pattern fills.  Skate prints feature a lot and are reflective of the trends values giving the popular look a fresh new feel.

Sunshine at Sea

Last weekend we took our little boat out to the River Orwell just near Ipswich on the East Coast.  It was the first weekend we had seen the sunshine for weeks and weeks so it was real treat to get outside and enjoy it!  Here our a few of my favourite snaps I got from our day out!

I thought this boat looked really beautiful with the wood almost looking Orange and standing out so beautifully against the lovely blue sky that we hadn't seen in so long.

On our way out to sea from the River Orwell we passed the huge and busy port of Felixstowe where there were lots of shipping containers coming in.  I thought the red of this one with all its colourful containers looks so nice.

Just a lovely Buoy we passed that stood out on the murky Estuary waters and against the golden wheat fields of the land behind.

Here I just loved the reflection of this boat on the sea and the strip of yellow sandy beach in the background.  It really was such a treat to see the sun out!

Here just for fun our little Jack Russell - Captain Tilly taking charge at the front of the boat .... very cute!

Budapest in Spring

Here are a few snaps from a trip to Budapest, Hungary that I shot back in March.  Still wet and rainy here but I'm told we are supposed to see some sun soon....I'll be waiting!

A little stroll into town passing the tram.

The government buildings.

A street after a heavy downpour with the sun reflecting off the road.

Some lovely trees!

The veg market - lovely cololurs.

Crafting - Make Your Own Pillows from Shirts!

Its another washed out weekend here......

Instead of getting down about all the rain today I decided to put my Saturday being stuck indoors to good use and get crafting!  A few days ago I was given some shirts that were not going to be worn again by their owner.  I had been thinking what I could do with them all week then this morning I had a eureka moment!

I woke up looked out of the window at the grey wet day outside and thought...

'I'll make those shirts into pillows'.

I thought I would share what I created here as it took under and hour and is an easy peasy way to convert similar old clothes into pillows.  What's great about using shirts is like in the image below you can use the front button up placket as the opening for the inner pillow to fit in through so no fiddly zips to fit Yay!

My finished pillowcase measures 40 x 40 cm as that matched other pillows they would sit with.  I cut my front square to 42 x 42 cm giving me 1 cm of seam allowance.

On the back side of the pillow I made a patchwork of different cuts from the two shirts I used.  I cut each square to 12 cm (this gives 10 cm squares when sewn together as 1 cm will be seam allowance)  I used a total of 16 squares to make up the side then sewed them all together.  Again, once this was all sewn together it gives me a piece measuring 42 x 42 cm.

I then sewed the patchwork square to the square I cut out of the front of the shirt including the button up placket and voila!  I have a very simple 'none zip' recycled shirt pillow case.

Some of the squares I cut on the bias giving a nice contrast to the pieces.

I included details of the shirts like cuff plackets to give the pillows a real crafty feel as you can see in the above and below images.

OK a few of my pieces didn't match up exactly but it is the first time i've attempted a patchwork.  I think it shows they are homemade!

Here are my two finished pillows.  A nice new addition to our home!

You can see the chest pocket still on here too!

I made the inside pillow with stuffing from some cheap pillows I picked up off of e bay and made their shell from some old kalico I had.

I would like to try this again with old denim jeans and make a big pillow to go o our sofa.  I will keep you updated in the future!

Boys Fashion Illustration

I have recently been practising my fashion illustration.  I love creating illustrations but after University, with the way my jobs were, I became very reliant on computers for everything!  This unfortunately stopped me practising my hand drawing that I had once loved.  I use a pen pad instead of a mouse for work on my computer which combined with the brushes on illustrator being a lot more advanced which allows me to create hand drawn/painted effects nicely in illustrator.  Here is an illustration I created from a picture of one of my designs featured in Vertbaudet in  illustrator.

Photobucket

I hope to create more illustrations in the near future especially of my own featured designs.  Keep posted over the next few weeks for more posts like this.

Maternity Fashion - Key Catwalk Looks for Autumn/Winter 2012

Last year I designed some maternity wear ranges for Jo Jo Maman Bebe.  It was the first time I had designer maternity wear and there were lots of new things I had to consider!

I wanted the range to be fashionable yet practical!  I did a lot of research into catwalk trends and thought about how I could translate them into trendy maternity designs.

(Click on board to make bigger!)

Here are some key catwalk looks I put together for Autumn/Winter 2012 that I thought would translate nicely into maternity shapes too.  I will be sharing more trends over the course of this week.

Costal Trip

We have had another grey washed out week here!  I know what people say about England being rainy but this is super bad for a British Summertime!  I literally have not been able to go out once this week to truly enjoy the outdoors because of the bad weather.  Anyway, to try to give myself a lift I sifter through some pictures from early spring this year when my boyfriend and I and one of our dogs took a day trip to the coast on a wonderfully sunny day.  We decided to go to Maldon on the Essex coast and work our way up to Mersey Island a little further north.  The sun was warm and the beautiful colours of early spring made us truly optimistic for the seasons lying ahead after the long cold winter!
